HIGHLIGHTS

When the Pandavas were in the exile they came to Manali. One night Bhim was keeping a vigil while other brothers were sleeping. Hidimba came there looking for food for her brother Hidimb. Bhim and Hidimba liked each other and decided to marry. Hidimba is the presiding deity of the valley and has a prominent place. Festival of Kullu Dussehra starts only afterHidimba reaches Kullu from Manali. Hidimba is also known as ‘Dadi’ of the royal family of Kullu since the time she gave the kingdom to Bihangmanipal, the first king of Kullu. The temple is built over a huge rock and stood at the same place since ancient time. In 1553 AD when the temple was being re-built after a fire destroyed the old temple, people wanted to make it at another place as the rock was seen as a limitation but the goddess refused. So the temple was constructed at the same place. Main Mohra of Hidimba is in the form and style of a bride.
