Legend i sthat Rana of Nalhach was very cruel. The people prayed to the gods to get rid of him. Seeing the people’s plight Narayan ( Lord Vishnu) appeared in the form of a simple man and killed the Rana by hitting him with a heavy metal implement. Then uprooting the tree he exhibited his power. Recognizing the devta as a powerful force people constructed a temple for the devta. The devta has slanting (Pheta) rath with 11 mohras.
